We are a non-profit organization based in Turlock, California that saves and rescues unwanted and abandoned cats. Our main goal is to help control the animal population in our surrounding communities. We are a NO KILL rescue group. None of this could be possible if is was not for the help of our local veterinarians. Since 1996 we have found homes for over 4,000+ animals. In the year 2008 alone, we have found homes for 362 cats/kittens, 17 dog/puppy's, 24 ranch placement, and 95 off site shelter dogs. A total of 498!

Q:  I have a 4 yr old cat that i have had all of it life she is declawed so she stays in the house. we just move to a new house. i put the cat in the haouse and she tried to run out. so i put her in my bedroom and she is hiding under the bed for 2 days she wont eat and has not used her litter box. What do i do?
A:

Ypur cats reaction is normal.Cats are creatures of habit. With your recent move your cats behavior will take a few days to return to normal. Leave the litter box and water/food bowl in the room with your pet. Trying to move your pet will only stress her more, leave her alone for a few days and monitor her food, water and litter box use . Make sure your pet has some form of identification such as pet tag or micro chip. If your pet does not eat or drink for more than 5 days you should seek veterinary care.

Q:  Someone dumped off 7 plain stripped cats at my rural Merced home. Why isnt their any low cost spay/nueter programs that could help me.
A:  Are you planning to fix and keep the cats?   There is a low cost spay and neuter clinic, HOPE Foundation in Fresno 559-271-0109.   In Turlock, there is PAWS 669-8600 and the one I am more familiar with Project X.  Several of our local Turlock vets offer this low cost spay and neuter program 209-988-SPAY.   In Modesto, Alley Cat Guardians will be opening a low cost spay and neuter clinic for feral cats.  Most rescue groups are also struggling in this poor economy and unable to help everyone with cat problems.   Unfortunately, some people believe dumping cats off in the country, is better then taking then to the shelter.   They are unaware of what really happens to the those animals they dump off.

Q:  My mastiff Dude sits outside when it is very hot and refuses to stay indoors.  I have a kiddie pool for him and he uses it, but he will also lay in the sun.  What is wrong with this mutt?  Will he allow himself to over heat.
A:
In hot weather, care should be taken with all dogs.   Just make sure they have plenty of fresh drinking water and don't let them get too much sun.   Some dogs can get sunburned, heat stroke and skin cancer.  So make sure they have shelter and shade to stay in.  You can also use a water misting system.  Hot weather can be fatal to all dogs with "flat face" noses, Bull dogs, Pugs, Pekingese and Boston Terriers.   My Calico cat loved to lay out side when the weather was over 100 degrees.   101.5 degrees is closer to cats and dogs average body temperature.  If your dogs body temperature goes over 103 degrees then you need to be concerned and take him too a vet.

Q:  I have two sun conures and I was wondering what is the coldest and hottest temperature the can handle. I like to put them outside, but I don't want them to get sick
A:  Hi...I talked to Dr Barrett at Community Vet Clinic who specializes in birds...he said that Sun Conures are tropical birds...if your house temperture is kept around 78 to 80 degrees they will do okay...if you are going to put them outside on a hot day they will need to be in the shade and will need a water misting system...I hope that this answers you question...they are very pretty birds...thanks for being my first to Ask the Rescue...>^..^<
